Megan Schmitz is a results-driven strategist and dynamic leader with nearly 20 years of experience in business strategy, public policy, and community development. As Senior Vice President at Horizon Strategies, she crafts and executes innovative solutions for complex challenges in corporate, government, tech, and nonprofit sectors. She is passionate about fostering insightful dialogue and cultivating platforms that inspire thought leadership and innovation. Her ability to create strong coalitions and meaningful relationships has earned her a reputation for driving economic growth and community prosperity across Arizona.

In addition to her role at Horizon, Megan also co-founded and currently serves as Executive Director of Sport48, an advocacy organization that aims to build, grow, and scale Arizona’s sports business ecosystem, and anchor sports as a fundamental pillar of the state’s economy.

Megan’s career trajectory reflects a commitment to excellence. Before joining Horizon Strategies, she held various leadership roles including Chief of Staff at Pinnacle West Capital Corporation, and its wholly owned electric utility, Arizona Public Service Company (APS). While there, Megan had the opportunity to shape long term business strategies, advise on investor relations and board governance, drive cross-functional initiatives, and deliver impactful results for a S&P 500 company. Prior to APS, Megan served as Chief of Staff and Research Analyst for the Phoenix City Council District 4 Office, where she led municipal policy initiatives across a wide variety of issues that spanned planning and zoning, transportation, community health, economic development and trade, tourism, and public safety.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Megan is deeply committed to her community. She serves on the boards of the Row Community Development Corporation and Phoenix Community Alliance, and was appointed by Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego as a member of the Phoenix Women's Commission. Megan’s work in arts, culture, and urban development reflects not only her creative approach to solving complex problems, but also her belief in the power of community-driven initiatives. A proud alumna of Arizona State University (MBA) and The Ohio State University (BA in Political Science), Megan also holds certifications in decision-making and sports business leadership from Yale School of Management and Columbia Business School, respectively.

Megan’s career is defined by her strategic acumen, ability to navigate complex ecosystems with integrity and empathy, and commitment to shaping Arizona’s future. With her background in policy and a keen understanding of human nature, Megan combines sharp intellect with unshakable resolve to deliver results for her clients. When not steering transformative initiatives, Megan is always up for an adventure in the great outdoors, cheering on Arizona’s sports teams, and testing her skills in the kitchen.
