Katie Prendergast
Katie Prendergast has influenced Arizona policy for nearly two decades in an incredibly effective manner. Katie’s ability to understand and explain the most intricate policy and business issues is unmatched. Her skills as a researcher, writer, and relationship-builder coupled with her work ethic, determination, and poise make her one of the most effective public affairs professionals in Arizona. As a native Arizonan, Katie is passionate about public policy which supports the economic vibrancy and quality of life in her home state. Katie’s experience spans the public, private and non-profit sectors.
At Horizon Strategies Katie leads both large and small scale development projects to successful outcomes, manages all legislative and state agency engagement, and advises organizations and associations to best help them serve their constituencies while achieving their objectives. Katie is a mentor to and sounding board for clients and colleagues alike, always offering a thoughtful perspective and having a seemingly endless cache of wise counsel. Prior to Horizon, Katie worked as the Senior Vice President of Public Affairs for the Arizona Small Business Association (ASBA), a non-profit organization dedicated to representing the small business voice in public policy arenas where her focus was finding opportunities to influence policy on behalf of small businesses and budding entrepreneurs. Prior to her role with ASBA, Katie worked as a senior expert consultant in government affairs at Arizona Public Service, where she represented the state’s largest electric utility company at the state capitol and within city halls across Arizona, building partnerships and charting paths for win-win outcomes to complex and dynamic challenges.
Katie’s public service background includes serving several Arizona elected officials at the federal, state, and local level, including the iconic Senator Jon Kyl and beloved Governor Jan Brewer. Katie’s hand in creating policy at all levels of government, engaging with diverse stakeholders, and championing thoughtful fiscal responsibility have given her a valuable and unique perspective.
Katie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Colorado State University. Katie is an avid equestrian and derives great joy from riding her mare, Aurora, throughout Arizona’s stunning desert landscapes. She and her fiance, Jeremy, frequently explore the globe, adventuring far and wide, collecting amusing stories with colorful characters. Katie loves animals and is a dedicated volunteer with the Arizona Humane Society.
