Megan Schmitz is a proven business professional with over a decade of diverse experience that spans government, corporate, and nonprofit sectors. Her career has included an electric utility, a publicly-traded holding company, municipal policy and programs, and multiple nonprofit boards. The diverse range of experience has helped Megan develop a unique perspective of the interconnectedness of business and civic issues that influence the state and the impact on community prosperity and quality of life.
Before joining Horizon Strategies, Schmitz served as Chief of Staff to the Chairman and CEO of Arizona Public Service (APS), Arizona’s longest-serving electric company, where she advised on the strategic operations of the regulated utility and publicly-traded holding company. She also held the role of Program Manager at the company, where she led initiatives spanning the clean energy commitment to the reputation management strategy. Previously, she served as Chief of Staff to the District 4 Office of the Phoenix City Council where she managed day-to-day operations, community outreach, constituent services, media relations, and public policy. Megan has advised on matters including the METRO Light Rail Board, Federal Communications Commission Intergovernmental Advisory Board, Police Advisory Board and Phoenix Planning Commission. Schmitz also volunteers with Roosevelt Row Community Development Corporation, where she currently serves as President of the Board of Directors. She is adept at building consensus, and has a penchant for fostering collaboration to achieve mutual benefit.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Megan has lived in downtown Phoenix since 2006. She holds a Political Science degree from The Ohio State University and an MBA from Arizona State University. She is also a graduate of Valley Leadership and the Edison Electric Institute’s Utility Transmission and Wholesale Markets program. In her free time, she throws pottery, experiments in the kitchen, and enjoys the outdoors.
